This amazingly sensitive under-saddle transducer was developed to transfer the maximum combination of sound elements that exist at the bridge. The real guitar sound with all its natural frequencies and resonances is being transmitted directly at the sound source, the bridge. To meet these requirements, the K&K engineers used a "super-light" construction principle. Only ultra-thin material cradles the piezo-crystals, which ensures the unrestrained transfer of the wood vibrations directly to the crystals. This eliminates the need to provide electronic post-processing to improve the sound, as is the case with many other bridge pickups. Design - In the FanTaStick Western pickup, K&K uses selected hand-matched piezo-crystals which specifically complement the brighter sound of the steel strings. Their patented "super-light" construction, along with the selected piezo material for steel strings, are the main differences between the FanTaStick and other bridge pickup transducers. Construction - To balance the volumes of each string, K&K measures each crystal separately within the nano-inch range. Only six crystals of exactly the same height are combined to create one FanTaStick. Furthermore, each crystal is fitted according to a defined direction of polarization. Even playing in "open tunings" is possible, because the FanTaStick already functions with low string pressure. At the same time, this construction method results in another positive effect: The FanTaStick is extremely flexible and adjusts easily to any arched base. Output - Due to its naturally high output, the FanTaStick can be directly connected to an amplifier or mixer without a preamp.
